Still the funniest!
Well! Haven’t seen Alan in stand up for years, I can truly say I wasn’t disappointed. Absolutely hilarious, never laughed so much at anything as much as last night! Admittedly there were some dark moments but I was expecting that as he’d mentioned it on other shows, previewing this show! Maybe not relevant to the audience but obviously quite poignant. Alan manages to lift the mood immediately after these moments though. Very pleasant and exhilarating show.
Alan...you've still got it!
The show at the Alex in Birmingham was excellent! I've been a keen fan forever, and was not disappointed. All the material was new...not surprising after all this time! I bought his book and was first in the queue for signing. He chatted while waiting for a pen to appear, and it rounded off the evening beautifully. If you're a fan...catch one of his shows!
A bit whelmed...
We saw Alan Davies perform his show 'Think Ahead' in Leicester and were a bit disappointed when we came out. Yes, we did laugh, but it wasn't as good as we were expecting. In this show Alan covers some dark territory by talking about losing his mum when he was 6 and then being sexually abused by his dad, who he subsequently reported to the police. And the fact that he is a cancer survivor. Although these stories elicited sympathy, they were not great in terms of laughs and you could sense that the whole audience was on edge about it. Beyond that it's basically a show about being a grumpy 60 year old man and the trials and tribulations of erectile dysfunction and the anger of aging. So knob jokes basically, going for the lowest common denominator.
